Traffic was resumed on 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended for several hours on Thursday due to fresh landslides and shooting stone, triggered by rain.
A traffic police official said this afternoon that traffic movement was disrupted on Jammu-Srinagar highway due to intermittent shooting stones at Panthyal.
He said the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) put into service sophisticated machines to clear the landslides after rain and shooting stone stopped.
Official said the road is now through for traffic.
He said today only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) were allowed from Srinagar to Jammu while Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) carrying essentials from Jammu to Srinagar. However, travelers are requested to follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) announced by the government to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
The security forces are advised to undertake journey on the highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, after confirming status of the highway from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) highway J S Johar.
